Mixing Instructions: Place a cocktail glass in freezer to chill. Combine the bourbon, lemon juice, Benedictine, and Cointreau in a cocktail shaker and fill it halfway with ice. Notes: Ray LaMontagne produced his fourth album on his own, recording it over the course of two weeks at his home in the woods of rural Massachusetts. It worked. Aided by his incredibly talented band, the Pariah Dogs, LaMontagne delivers up a masterpiece in American folk. The melancholy rasp of a voice, slide guitar and contemplative lyrics make this the kind of album to which you picture living life. Few vocal performances can match the opening riff of the title track…perfection. Other highlights include, “Beg Steal or Borrow” and “Devil’s In the Jukebox.” Sip your Bourbon Cocktail, and let LaMontagne’s voice make life simple again.
